Open question 1

What is one thing you would like to see improved in your neighborhood?

Speeding and traffic35 comments
  • Street safety Traffic too fast, slow it down
  • Speed bumps / traffic calming measures on Williamson Blvd near Neff. Used as a traffic detour during the Neff/Purcell intersection work, and still used as a cut through to the hospital, often speeding.
  • traffic control for safety reasons-too much speeding, red light running and distracted driving
  • Slower traffic on Locksley Drive in the Providence Subdivision.
  • Speeding cars and LOUD motorcycles
  • Speeding and traffic noise on 27th need to be addressed
  • Since the new part of Purcell was built, the people who live here have to deal with a lot of traffic, noise and of course the speeding (which gets pretty bad). [...] It would be nice to have speed bumps or at the minimum a crosswalk somewhere between Holliday and Wells Acre (there is no safe place to cross between those streets) as this neighborhood has a lot of people walking dogs etc.
  • Speed limit enforcement!
  • Control of traffic and speeding for community and pedestrian safety.
  • I would like to see more police enforcement regarding speeding and reckless driving.
  • Crossing flags in roundabouts and more signage about slowing down and using turn signals. I am bummed the Butler Market improvement didnt add more trees in the unused portions of the median. Portions feel like a neighborhood heat island. I'm confused why so many of our trees and shrubs are dying in the right of ways and parking lots this year when the west side is still irrigated. Some messaging and xeriscaping would help. Thanks!
  • There are so many "blind" corners from trees that don't get pruned over stop signs or just stick out on the corners so you can't see. People park is all kinds of directions and on top of stop signs also adding confusion with a complete lack of understanding about why there are laws about parking direction and location. I wish the city regulations on tree in new neighborhoods would consider the waste of planting in these poor choice areas and then also having to maintain the pruning to manage safety - just don't plant them in stupid places to begin with! I'm also talking about low level scrubs that grow to block visibility on main road corners. These builders and landscapers need to think before planting. sorry I sound like a raging on about this but I just see more & more problems every year.
  • Traffic
  • Slowing down traffic.
  • Excessively loud and speeding vehicles
  • Our street is a major cut through for St Charles employees. I would like to see more traffic calming to encourage them to use primary streets
  • Traffic on 27th with multiple schools and medical accessing the road is an issue. BUT … the traffic camera at 27th/Neff is not the answer and is inequitable for us who drive through that intersection multiple times per day compared to residents on the Westside who don’t have any traffic cameras. The argument that there aren’t Westside traffic lights is forgetting intersections like Portland/Wall, Newport/Wall, Revere/Division, Colorado, and high speeds on Mt Washington and Century.
  • Traffic reduction, street is used for neighborhood cut through by residents who live further north. There is a traffic light at the next intersection that will take them to where they are going.
  • Speed bumps to discourage speeding on Wells acres and Providence Drive
  • Speed limit enforcement!
  • Traffic control on 27th (Conners to Butler Mkt)
  • Able to make a left turn onto 27th
  • Weeds and trash around Mountain View HS. High traffic congestion on Wells Acres & 27. Need a roundabout
  • Better flow of traffic. No more housing unless there’s enough parking…OFF street parking!
  • Traffic on 27th Street
  • Traffic speed mitigation on Paula Drive
  • Slow speeders down
  • Quiet zones. Less traffic noise.
  • We have no sidewalks on Tucson Way and people speed too much. I thought we were getting sidewalks and speed bumps but I've got no updates.
  • Traffic control.
  • Traffic on Neff, it is insane and so busy during drop off / pick up at Eastmont. Since the light is giving tickets, people are driving slower which is great but not as many cars cycling through the light and it gets super backed up. Now that we have Relams at Buckingham, there is more traffic on Neff during the morning and afternoon. people are cutting through Providence and Eagle to avoid Neff and are driving super fast
  • Put stop light at Wells Acres and 27th Street, reduce speed limit to 25 north of Wells acres and 27th Street. I have watched traffic accidents and pedestrian near-miss events since 2004. Death and injury statistics should have justified taking action years ago. The flashing yellow light and cross walks are a good start. I pray for the safety of our Mountain View High School students, neighbors, and anyone having to cross Wells Acres and 27th Street.
  • Reduced traffic. Animal control—we are really tired of cleaning up after neighbors’ pets in our yard/landscape.
  • The traffic lights at Purcell and Neff. I would like to see the following changes: 1. Allow right turns on red lights to keep traffic from getting backed up during peak commute time. 2. Give the north - south lefthand turn lanes yellow turn arrows. This will also help keep the traffic flowing a little more at peak commute times.
  • Traffic congestion on 27th street
Street repair and sidewalks11 comments
  • Where is the street sweeper??? If we do see this service again, how would folks on the streets being cleaned be notified? So many people park on the street these days!!!
  • street repair more frequently
  • I'd like to see a pathway/sidewalk to Big Sky Park
  • overgrown vegetation that impedes sidewalks (or in winter, sidewalks on main streets that go uncleared after heavy snow); traffic circle maintenance; graffiti removal; slowing down traffic, especially on neighborhood streets.
  • The city has totally failed at keeping streets maintained. 35 years should be way past time for our neighborhood to be repaved.
  • Streets resurfaced Ne Francis court!!! Please
  • Sidewalk landscaping/maintenance, more amenities nearby
  • Road maintenance
  • Street lights
  • Street cleaning and repair
  • better and continuous sidewalks
Bike, walking and transit9 comments
  • No bike lanes that interfere with regular traffic. We are only appeasing the 5% that ride bikes. A big grocery store off Butler Market Road and Eagle Road.
  • More safe walking/biking routes - that interconnect the places we actually need/want to go, without a gap that is unsafe.
  • Better bus service to cut down car trips
  • Walkability
  • Safe bike transit for families
  • More connected pathways for pedestrians, such as using making use of canal easements.
  • More social gatherings and improved pedestrian and cycling infrastructure.
  • Increased bike and pedestrian safety. For example, Purcell needs a protected bike lane and vehicle speed enforcement- especially between Neff and Wells Acres.
  • More bike and transit infrastructure and retail within walking distance
Weeds, litter, yards and parking9 comments
  • Compliance with parking. Too many are parking beyond the "Do not park past this sign" and are obstructing safety views.
  • better yards, less weeds and better love for your yard. less parked cars on the streets.
  • Removing the noxious Knapweed. It is spreading fast. Education would be helpful.
  • The annual cutting of weeds along Wells Acres and the downslope of MVHS sports ball fields. There is still broken glass and trash from the last school year. The sidewalks have broken glass. Please have MVH or the city maintain wells acres from 27th to Baron.
  • Pick up garbage and weeds along 27th . Better coordination of transportation and utility projects so that less roads are closed at the same time
  • Limit street parking of travel trailers and rvs
  • No trash on sides of roads etc
  • Yard maintenance, street safety
  • Better maintenance of the sprinklers located in the grassy areas between the sidewalks and the street. Many of which seem to have been damaged, flooding the streets, etc. Don't think the residents should be required to take care of the sprinklers in that area. Perhaps this is something the maintenance people who maintain those areas during the warmer months should be responsible for - making sure that they are working properly before they depart for the fall/winter months.
Shops and services nearby9 comments
  • More mixed use commercial
  • Commercial offerings within walking distance.
  • Acess to a grocery store and small commercial area
  • More close in commercial to reduce car trips
  • I’d like to see the commercial development of Butler Market / Deschutes Market (Petrosa Lot) actually get developed with establishments that are beneficial to the neighborhood. Cafes, eateries, restaurants, shops, bakeries, pubs. It’d be nice to have options we could ride a bike to with our kids.
  • more variety of businesses, more walkable shopping
  • Add a simple grocery/hardware store in the middle of the Mountain View ND.
  • Small commercial developments to reduce driving.
  • Commercial space
Community and connection7 comments
  • Awareness of disadvantaged citizens and seniors isolation.
  • Community engagement; we need more neighborliness, more community improvement projects
  • Community building
  • Art show
  • more social events
  • More neighbor connections
  • Community connections
Parks, green space and environment6 comments
  • Pressure on HOAs to allow drought - waterless landscaping and dark sky lighting - and traffic on 27th
  • end toxic spraying of herbicides. etc., noise pollution and air pollution, safety in Eagle Park
  • More trees.
  • More green space to accommodate increase in housing density, specifically around the Purcell Landing area
  • More trails, parks, and outdoor recreation opportunities
  • More parks and/or public access to community green spaces/gardens/parks. Similar to how the Westside was developed with keeping the natural beauty intact while new housing developments and neighborhoods are being built at a rapid pace. Would love to see these development companies add some value back to the community
Public safety4 comments
  • We do not need much with our HOA handling a lot for us, but an occasional neighborhood visit by a police patrol car would be nice, just to let us know that they think of us occasionally..
  • Safety for children on the streets
  • Public Safety
  • Safety
New housing and growth4 comments
  • Less housing being built
  • Less
  • No more building It’s getting way to busy
  • The pace at which new developments are going up (too fast)
Communication and information3 comments
  • Updates on what has been completed transportation-wise (roadwork), and what is upcoming - instead of having to rely on the city to inform
  • Notifications about recent crimes in the neighborhood.
  • More Communication about what developments are going to be happening; along Eagle road.
Homelessness and camping2 comments
  • Less litter, fewer transients, less car camping on public streets, less panhandling. [...]
  • Too many homeless vehicles on streets, e.g. Watt Way

Any additional comments or suggestions?

Thanks and encouragement9 comments
  • Thanks for trying to get the community together again.
  • Thanks for your efforts on behalf of Mountain View Neighborhood!
  • Thank you to all those who put time into the neighborhood associations/districts!! I know it is often very thankless/overlooked.
  • Thank you for the opportunity to share our thoughts!
  • Thank you for caring to ask!
  • Thanks for your efforts!
  • Thank you all for your ongoing community work!
  • Thank you for what you do. Volunteering is often a thankless job.
  • Excited to hear what comes out of this survey and how I can plug in!
Community, the board and getting involved9 comments
  • Encourage community pride.
  • Thanks for doing this survey. I would love to see our MVND board rejuvenated.
  • Thanks for serving on the board. [...] I wish more people were willing to volunteer and get involved with MVND.
  • It would be amazing to have a community listening session / idea generation event about how the old costco could be used. It is a huge opportunity for the community and the identity of NE Bend.
  • More art shows
  • I’d love to hear which suggestions the city has taken other than from staff or city councillors.
  • Listen, discern and act; be the change you know is necessary.
  • Would love to see a FB group potentially but also understand that would take moderators
  • Neighborhood districts should be smaller for more localized connection and should make efforts to include renters
Streets, traffic and safety7 comments
  • Will Hawkview Rd (the older section) every get on a repave schedule? It's in bad shape and lots of sink holes. everyone drives down the middle of the road to avoid the dips. I know there are too many roads to keep up with b/c of uncontrolled growth, but just putting it out there since they've built 3 new subdivisions in the past year that now access the road.
  • This survey is well done. Traffic speed is my second highest concern. With electronic speed registers, the speed limit should be present to be effective, e.g. speed register on Beall. I am supportive of speed bumps.
  • Please work as our advocates for equity on the roads and cameras. I don’t agree that the cameras are even a good idea anywhere due to being managed by a third party.
  • Please address the kids who skip school And hang out in the side streets [street name removed]. The second related issue is the after school cars waiting along [street name removed] and now spilling down a neighboring court. The students drive way too fast on these side streets.
  • We need more police officers on our streets and in our communities. I’m willing to pay more in property taxes for greater public safety.
  • This is a citywide thing, but more public education about where e-bikes, especially e-motorcycles, can and CANNOT be ridden.
  • I would like to see more consistent signage at the neighborhood street intersections that have the small circular islands. When there are stop signs, drivers sometimes ignore them and treat the circular island as a mini roundabout, and fail to stop. There is a small circular island on Revere St. just west, up the hill from Shepherd Dr, that has yield signs on all 4 of its entry points. This is different than the other similar intersections with stop signs. ??? I would like to see more consistency in directions on how to navigate these and better signage to go with it. This way a driver can (hopefully) better anticipate what other drivers may do when entering the intersection.
Growth and development3 comments
  • Where will all the water come from for all this building.
  • We need more visibility into ALL re-zoning projects in our neighborhood as its impacting and decreasing the value of our homes and reducing our quality of life due to increased traffic, poorer road conditions (more heavy trucks in neighborhoods = more potholes which the city continues to neglect)
  • Keep out the developers
Shops, trails and amenities3 comments
  • I wish we had more local commercial like coffee shops so we could walk/bike more and not drive as much
  • Hoping to see commercial development at Petrosa.
  • Trail connections, icluding purchase of easements.
