Safety First

Project construction activities require heavy equipment and open trench work. Stay safe. Always stay outside of the construction areas. Keep children and pets away from the construction zone. Use the posted detour and temporary pedestrian access routes. Please be aware that temporary pedestrian access routes will change as needed during different phases of work.

PROJECT UPDATE

We have monitored the traffic and installed temporary speed humps on Williamson Court, Paula Drive and Shepard Road. Speed radar devices will continue to be deployed for traffic calming and monitoring in areas experiencing high rates of cut through traffic.

Construction – May 8-26

Purcell Extension

Processing of the excavated and hammered material continues near Courtney Drive. The crushed rock will be repurposed for pipeline backfill and to change the grade of Neff Road through the intersection.

Installation of the joint utility trench along Purcell Boulevard. By partnering with local agencies, the Purcell Extension evolved into a synergy project which allows for future improvements of the area before finished concrete and asphalt surfaces are in place.

Neff and Purcell Intersection

As the franchise utilities, such as gas, power, cable, etc., are progressing towards completion of relocating their facilities to ideal locations and depths, the City’s contractor is able to begin the planned improvements of the Neff and Purcell intersection.

Asphalt removal in the intersection is anticipated to begin the week of May 8, followed by sewer line replacement work. Note that schedules are estimates and subject to change.

SAFETY FIRST

Construction season continues to ramp up in Bend. National Work Zone Awareness Week begins April 17 to encourage safe driving, especially through work zones and when using detours or alternate routes. Use extra caution and allow additional time to reach your destination. We appreciate your patience during construction. We all play a role in keeping our roads safe.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATES

Relocation of underground utilities continues in coordination with franchise utility companies like gas, power and internet providers throughout both project areas. Multiple utility companies are working collaboratively to relocate their infrastructure preparing for the next phase of work. During this process, there may be overlapping start and completion cycles or a gap between when one company finishes up work and another one begins working. As the work continues, the intersection closure will remain in place. There may be additional temporary traffic impacts near the closure, such as flagging or lane shifts, however we will continue to do our best to minimize disruptions to traffic and nearby properties.

Water line replacement continues on the Purcell extension. This requires temporary water shut-offs for a small number of properties near the extension. If your property will be impacted, you will be notified directly in advance of any service interruptions.

Clearing and grubbing of the work area continues along Purcell Boulevard to prepare for the widening of the roadway. This will involve removing trees, shrubs and other vegetation in the City’s right-of-way.
